Saange Beach Lodge, Tanzania

A perfect day for a swim...

The beachWelcome to Saange Beach Lodge, the most recent addition to Oloika Lodges' set of beautiful accommodations in unique places, available from October 2008 onwards. This lodge is located South of Pangani Town, in Saange Village. White beaches, green coconut trees, warm blue ocean, this place is perfect to end your travels, relax from the drive, and enjoy the sound of the surf on the beach. Getting here is still the adventure travel ought to be. Cross the ferry at Pangani from Moshi or Tanga, drive the hour it takes to get here, and drive up to the lodge we built for you. Or take a boat from Pangani and let yourself be carried over the ocean to land at your own beach. Local pink corral stone and Makuti roofs, locally made Swahili style furniture and beds provide the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. And when you want to be more active, you can swim, boat, fish or walk around the fishing villages wondering where those great rays and colourful fish were caught. Best of all, go and visit the latest addition to the series of national parks in Tanzania, Saadani National Park, located 11 km from the lodge. Here, elephants walk the beach and hippo's walk the salty mud.

Palm tree at beachThe accommodation

At present, the accommodation consists of one beach house with two bedrooms with double beds and a verandah, all built in local Swahili style. The kitchen and bar are next to the house, with the second house being finished and decorated in the course of 2010 on the other side of the kitchen. When the second house is finished, we can accommodate groups of four and eight, while additional beds can be provided for larger families. The houses are on their own plot of some 9 acres, have a stunning beach front with a very safe beach as it slopes very gently. At the same time, the property is unique as this safe and gently sloping beach borders slightly deeper water where swimming is always possible, whatever the tide. The rooms are self contained with shower and toilet. Taking a dive in the warm ocean and having a shower under the palm tree could never be more easy.

Security and freedom of movement

We are fortunate to be the guests of the village of Saange, where a warm welcome is provided you. With the involvement of the village in building the lodge, food provision and cooking, and through our contributions to the school, good relationships with the village inhabitants provide for a warm welcome, security, and a friendly atmosphere. In line with our philosophy, we aim to make the lodge as useful to the local community as we can, and invite you to purchase small food items, fish and fruits from the local vendors and fishermen.
